21st Century After School Programming
I have been in education for 17 years. I began my teaching career here in Decatur. I taught Kindergarten for five years, first grade for one year and second grade for four years. After 10 years in the classroom I became the English Language Director for the school district. During this time I developed a passion for working with teachers, other leaders in addition to the wonderful students. After completing my administrator’s licensure I became the Elementary School Dean of Students and then was named K-8 Assistant Principal. During my tenure as Assistant Principal I was the director of the 21st Century SPARK after school program.
I currently work at the middle school (5th-8th grades) as the building principal.
I am a busy mom to four wonderful children ages 23, 18, 14 and 12. The oldest works for an area mortgage lending company and is learning all about adulting. The 18 year old is at the U of A studying biology. The younger two are busy playing football for their school teams. In addition to the kiddos I have two crazy doggos who keep me about as busy as the kids. :)
The world of education is a busy one for sure and I love every minute of it. When I am not working, I enjoy working out (this helps me clear my mind and recharge/refocus), reading educational leadership books, taking short road trips and camping/boating with the family. If the word beach is involved and the time allows, you might find my toes in the sand.
